SKIN/TOUCH:   WHICH IMPORTANCE?
Literary search and editing by CATCM's team

Our body is covered with an envelope: skin. It is the organ of the touch par excellence. The man will be able to come into contact with the outside, thanks to the touch. This cutaneous coating covers approximately 2 m² of surface and has 720.000 nervous receivers.

It is the sense the more developed but the more ignored and less used.

The skin fills of many biological functions. It is a true factory. It regularizes the intern/extern exchanges.   It has an extraordinary faculty of auto-repair and the speed of healing gives an idea in the way in which we already used our vital potential. The skin reflects the operation of the organism.

The embryology teaches us that the skin and the nervous system come from the same layer of the embryo (ectoderm). The skin is thus a true exteriorized nervous system.   Thus any physical contact is reflected on the operation of our body. Tactile stimulations play an essential role in the emotional blooming of the child (and of the adult afterwards) and his growth. During the 1st stage of development (from 0 to 6 months), the child must learn how to exist, and it does it through the arms (the touch of others).   It is known that if this acquisition is badly made, i.e.:   " I was touched, too much, too little, or badly touched" that can involve later various pathologies or of the behavioural problems.

One can understand the importance of the touch as being a vital need. This direction needs food: touch. The gesture of the touch comforts and unfortunately in our modern societies the touch is limited to the mother who comforts her child, with the reports in love and the social handshake. In occident, especially in the countries marked by the religion Judeo-Christian, the touch is lived as taboo because it is associated sexuality.

According to thorough studies' the children of nursery of which one does not occupy oneself sufficiently and who do not have their count of caresses end up decaying and sometimes dying, on the other hand at the Eskimos where the contact mother/child is very strong, the child acquires an unshakeable confidence in life. From these 2 extreme cases, which can conclude from it: The touch has a connotation and a powerful emotional reality. It implies us personally, puts to us face to face with us, and awakes our lived interior.   This touch, our touch represents the exchange that we have with the other.

The hand is the privileged instrument of the touch it expresses its possibilities of expression and its interior potential. The hand that mass calls the life, awakes the memories of the body sometimes painfully. The hand alleviates, relaxes and reassures.

It brings back the sensitivity in the dead zones. It gives back confidence to the body. It says " what do you need ?"   Rather than " what does not go?" . It generates energy. The hand stimulates the reactions of auto healing and defence of the organism. It allows taming the body, to unify it.

The hand takes part in this exchange " masseur, massed" , a climate of confidence, of relaxation is established and one can let go oneself quietly with the feelings. In this privileged moment, the body takes back its rights, opens out, relaxes and softened. The hand is the extension of the heart. Naturally when we hurt, we put our hand where it hurt. All the care by the touch, in particular the massages and the other manual therapies a prolongation of this natural gesture "

Benefits?
What are the effects?   Here is a small list:·

  • Mechanical effects by the drainage and elimination of toxins, disappearance of tiredness
  • Biochemical effects by the modification of tissues (more flexible), the stress, activation of the mechanisms of assimilation and elimination of the skin
  • Nervous effects, at the same time by the appeasing and the stimulation in a soft and harmonious way (think of the 720.000 nervous receivers?.)   by the releasing effect
  • Electromagnetic effects by a better circulation of the energy
  • Organic effects by the relaxation of the bodies, a better operation and a better regularization of the organism (digestion, blood pressure, respiratory exchanges, eliminations intestinal or renal,)
  • Psychological and psychomotor effects by the body contact and emotional blooming, by the harmonization of the body diagram by connecting the various parts of the body, by a better perception of the feelings, a better coordination, an awakening of the tensions due to the stress and by an action on the on the breathing rhythm and the posture.
  • Reflexes effects by stimulation of certain points

Receiving a massage, it is to find forgotten feelings. The body is not perceived any more like a mechanics but like part of us.   The body takes back its place in the large trilogy -Body- Heart - Spirit.
